Biography

Greek pianist, musicologist and music teacher, Tonia moves between classical and world music, with some unexpected touches of prepared piano.

She studied piano at the Greek National Conservatory and musicology at the Fine Arts School of Thessaloniki. While in Thessaloniki, she joined the local theater and traditional music group “Polytropon”, that frequently tours in Greece and Europe.

She continued her studies in Nice, France, receiving a Master’s degree in the Theory and Practice of Performing Arts from the University of Sophia Antipolis, and then in Paris, where she obtained her piano diploma at the Conservatory of Argenteuil and received a training on accompaniment for lyrical singing at the Conservatory of Créteil.

At the same time, she attended the improvisation class at the National Higher Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris (CNSMD) and acting classes at the Jacques Lecoq school.

Her curiosity and openness then led her to study the prepared piano and contemporary music under Martine Joste. She also had the privilege to meet Jacqueline Manoury, who supported her and allowed her to deepen her knowledge of the classical repertoire.

Since 2020, her artistic explorations have been revolving around classical music, Greek music –both written and traditional– as well as Argentine tango. The latter naturally led her to join the tango department of the Conservatory of Gennevilliers, where she currently receives an integrated training on the different styles of Argentine tango under the direction of Juanjo Mosalini.

She performs as a soloist, as well as in various groups in Spain, Greece, Belgium and France, taking part in numerous festivals like the Détours de Babel in Grenoble, the Lundis Musicaux in Camaret, the Villes des Musiques du Monde, Galerie Hus, as well as the soirée on Athens organized by the newspaper Figaro Hors-Série at the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique (CNSAD). She has also performed under the direction of Caroline Gauthier at the Festival d’Avignon, and Dorli Lamar, former professor at the Jacques Lecoq school.

At the same time, she runs multiple projects, playing with the boundaries of her instrument and other disciplines. Her first creation She Said Sea was a laureate of the Centre International des Musiques Nomades (CIMN) in Grenoble in 2021. She is also artist-in-residence of Ateliers Médicis’ Création en cours #7 for the year 2023.

Since 2013, she has been accompanying singing classes and teaching in various establishments in Île-de-France, offering a teaching nourished by her diverse music knowledge and stage experiences.
